Erin Go Braugh

Apologies, for not posting as often, but over the the past few weeks I've been all over the South - from The Big Easy (New Orleans), to Richmond, to The Big "D" (Dallas) and even the beaches of Delaware - for both business and pleasure. That being said, all this travel has inspired a few great posts that are on the way.

In the mean time, celebrate like all of us should on this good drinkin' holiday with a GREEN BEER or two:

For each petal on the shamrock
This brings a wish your way -

Good health, good luck, and happiness

For today and every day.

Hometown Showdown

The Louisiana State Society hosted a Happy Hour at Rocket Bar in China Town prior to the Washington Wizards vs. New Orleans Hornets basketball game tonight at the Verizon Center.

With 8+ years of DC as my adopted hometown, the real thing, New Orleans, prevailed in a 109-98 win. Chris Paul continues to raise the NBA-bar with his sixth triple-double of 30 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds leading the Hornets to their 40th win of the season.

An Era Gone By

As many of you may know, LIFE magazine recently posted over 10 million images for the public's use through their website, LIFE.com. Browsing the pictures, I was reminded of Dash Goff's quote referencing traditions and social grace long abandoned by most of the nation, but that can still be found throughout the Deep South.

"...a time before flirting became extinct, when letter writing was an art, stationery was engraved and dinner was an event."

As captured through the lens of LIFE Magazine photographers:

Adm. James L. Holloway aboard the USS Taconic of US 6th fleet, writing letter to his wife. (1958)

Left: A businessman flirting with a young lady after work. (1946) Right: Sample of stationary at Blair House. (1942)

Last year's Queen Elizabeth Ann Davis (C) hosting an intimate formal dinner party for eminate Omaha citizens as a prelude to the Ak-Sar-Ben Coronation Ball, the prime event of the Corn Belt's social season. (1938)
