Upon return from our Memorial Day Weekend trip to the beach in Lewes, Delaware, I found the June GQ waiting for me in my mailbox. 'Thank You' Will Welch for your article, "I Want My Preppy Style Back!"

Did You Even See A Horse?
Well, it may have taken a few weeks but I've finally come round from that bourbon-induced stupor I ended up in at Gold Cup 2009! Something about plastic cups, an open bar, and not having to drive that gets me every time.
I promised you photos of Washington's young social set in all their spring finery and maybe even a horse or two HERE. While we may not be The Set, we certainly had a grand ole time.

Backrow from Left to Right: Jonathan N. Crawford, Gillian Markert, Katherine "Kate" Chambers, Daryl A. Muller. Front Row from Left to Right: C. McKay Elliott, Joanne Peters, Pamela C. Watson, Tara "The All Night Pony" Mahoney, "Boozie" Susie Coggins, Erin Korte, Cailin Monahan, Karina Bjelland, Sarah K. Brennan McKenna, J. Joe "The Daddy" McKenna.
Clockwise from Top Left: Lilly, Tibi, Calipso, Oh, My!; I think I saw a horse?; Cheers Gents!; Wonders of Watermelon.
Left: Boys' Bums at the Bar in the Basics - seersucker and patchwork madras. Right: Oops-A-Daisy Muller - while there is no reason to cry over spilled milk, there certainly are many reasons to cry over over spilled cocktails. Watch the beer tears though ladies, those can be contagious!
Left: Giddy Up! Right Top: When they found out I was doing a blog post on Gold Cup, these ladies begged to be photographed. So how could we say no to a group of girls that got into picture formation faster than we could take the lens cap off the camera. Right Bottom: Thanks for a great day Paul and Jeremy - until next year...Friday, May 15, 2009
All Hail the Kings
The first time I heard Kings of Leon was at a buddy's apartment helping him install his air conditioners. I didn't really notice the music in the background, but when we were finished and enjoying a beer it caught me. Learning more about the band, I can understand why and what has driven their sky rocketing success over the last five years. From their Tennessee upbringing, the three Followill brothers and their cousin - that all go by their middle names - say that while they weren't heavily influenced by others music until recently, they were influenced "equally by their religious upbringing and Jack Daniels Whiskey."
The first song below, Use Somebody, was written by Caleb Followill while homesick on the road. A feeling (being far away from home) we can all relate to at some points in our lives.
Released to critical acclaim in September 2008, the second song below, Crawl, focuses on "relationships of all kinds and taking them for granted."
If you don't have time to watch the videos, press play, minimize your screen and listen to the Kings of Leon as you go about your day.
Then come back and tell me what you think.

White Tie Wedding
On October 25, 2008, my cousin, Lauren Nicole Greenberg married her high school beau, Devin John Wakeman (coincidentally my middle school buddy) almost ten years since their courtship began in New Orleans, LA. The wedding weekend and those leading up to it - including a seventies-theme engagement party hosted by the bridal party, bachelor and bachelorette parties in Austin, TX, respectively; and numerous engagement parties thrown in their honor - were all very Southern, but also very New Orleans.I am sharing now, almost 6 months later, because Lauren & Devin have been featured in the May issue of St. Charles Avenue Magazine. You can read the full story and see pictures HERE and I have included a few detail shots that are referenced in the article below:

Yankee Dandy
While he isn't from The South, this Senior at Drew University's incredible dorm room is certainly note-worthy here at SOUTHERN GENT. From his prep-roots at Choate Rosemary Hall and internships with Charlotte Moss, Maximilian Sinsteden has created an eclectically classic space that is perfect for 1 to live and 20 for drinks.Born and raised in Hartford, CT, Sinsteden's space has been all over the blogs since first appearing in a New York Magazine story by Sarah Bernard last week. Here's a few of the images, but for more check out the slide show.

Tally Ho!
And we're off! Since Gold Cup 2008 we have been counting down the days to get back to The Plains, VA for the 84th running of the Virginia Gold Cup tomorrow.Weather might not be on our side, but the fully stocked bar will be - so once I come around from the bourbon-induced stupor I may end up in, they'll be a post with pictures of Washington's young social set at their finest and maybe one of a horse or two!
