Countdown to Carnival

Some folks countdown furiously from Thanksgiving to Christmas with an Advent calendar, but I prefer to countdown the days between January 6, Twelfth Night or the Feast of the Epiphany, and the pilgrimage back to New Orleans for 'Mawty Graw.'

Last year we had a few posts HERE, HERE and HERE and hope this year's posts put y'all in the spirit of Carnival no matter where you live.

  1. Great links. I've just been looking at Mardi Gras pictures from 1980. Haven't been since 83. Getting the fever but I doubt I'll get a pass. We use to catch it all at 3rd St. I'll wish I was there. And I've got a lot of friend that are Newman grads from the mid-70s.

  2. I hope I can make it down this year. I haven't been since '07. There's a lacrosse tournament that usually takes place the week before Mardi Gras that is lots of fun.

  3. I plan on being in Mobile for Mardi Gras (not the same, but I think it will work). We did have part of a King's Cake last night!

  6. Longwing - shoot me an email with you from Newman. That was about the time my mother/aunt graduated from Newman. AND head on back to for Mardi Gras. The city misses you.

Trip: If you get down there, let me know. Would enjoy the formal introduction over a beer as the parade passes.

SA: Site of the first American carnival...

    DCMuller: I can't wait. It's going to be a long 39 days...
