Jammin' - Bacon Style

In last week's New York Times column "We Made It Ourselves" was Bacon Jam and it's seem fitting to post for many reasons, but mainly because it was about a year ago we did another bacon post.

It took Josh Henderson 4-years to perfect the recipe and while I wouldn't attempt to make it myself (something about his description of hours skimming fat) I'd like to try it with writer Charlotte Druckman's suggestion of "cheddar thumbprint shortbread cookies" and "potato pancakes".

It would also be delicious with cornbread - so thanks to WJR for sending along.

  1. Um, that sounds unbelievable. Better than Baconnaise (which I still haven't tried yet).

  2. NR gave her brother some bacon jam as part of his Christmas present this past year. Apparently, it's unbelievable.

  4. I do love bacon! Its delicious and goes with everything. A jar of the jam has been ordered and is (hopefully) en route.

  5. Eww. But I am amenable to trying chocolate covered bacon.

  6. Trip: Baconaise scares me, but at the same time would probably be delicious on a turkey sandwich with lettuce and tomato.

BJT: Good find. When WJR's arrives I'll share our review.

    WJR: Hollar. Money well spent

JFR: Eww. Who doesn't love bacon?

  7. DAM, as much as I love bacon...please do not disgrace a potato latke (pancake) by putting bacon jam on it. Those are reserved for sour cream and either smoked salmon or caviar, or apple sauce!

  8. BMH: And now Bacon Jam... I'm doing it and will report back.

  9. Chocolate covered Bacon is delicious. Everyone should try. Also good, chocolate covered potato chips.

  10. Great post. I'm a veg and this even sounds delicious over some cornbread.

Or maybe I can figure out a fake-bacon version for myself...

  12. I thought WJR only like super crispy, almost burned bacon? Sign me up for the tasting! I'm curious of the texture of this...

  14. ADG: I have no idea. When it arrives I'll let you know.

Much like Stonewall Kitchen's onion and garlic jelly, I hope this is as delicious on a bagel with plain cream cheese.

Maybe an asiago cheese bagel with plain cream cheese and bacon jam... MMM MM!

  16. Update: It came in the mail and can't even taste it. The smell is horrible and looks disgusting.

Second update once I try it.
