Southern Voice

I wasn't a huge fan of this song till it ran during the credits of The Blind Side and now I am hooked. The concert scenes are the best part and can't wait for summer 2010 out at Nissan, now unfortunately named "Jiffy Lube Live."

  1. I have to admit that I've never been a huge McGraw fan. Not sure what it is about him that I don't care for though. Maybe it's his catalog of dramatic "loved and lost" ballads. Maybe it's the whole Faith Hill tag team concert runs from a few years back. Whatever it is, it's fading since watching The Blind Side. At first I thought his acting was just a lark, something fun he did when a friend directed something (Four Christmases?). But in this film I thought he supported Bullock very well. He was sincere, funny, and brought a "real human" quality to the part opposite the overly southern, uncharacteristically hard Leann. And i even stayed for the credits to listen to the closing song and decided I liked it.

  2. RHW: I hear you man. It took some time for me to come around on Tim, but then you listen to some of his older albums and songs (Indian Outlaw) and remember his hey-day opposite Garth in the 90's and it's all good.

I too find him playing 1-note characters - football dads or rednecks, but this character fit him and brought a level of authenticity to the role you wouldn't find with someone else.

  3. Here! Here! I was the same way, but loved it when I heard it at the end of the movie and it all seemed to make sense. I think Tim McGraw is a much better actor than singer. Just my opinion.

  4. This Southern Rock gal at heart is not a big country fan. But, Tim McGraw seems to make it all alright. Thinking I need me one of those Allman Bros tee shirts...XXOO

  5. I really like this song except that Tim McGraw constantly references alabama football and I am a diehard Vol.

Guess you can take the girl from Kentucky, but you can't take the Kentucky out of the girl. Now pour me a bud or a bourbon and let me get my dancin boots.

  7. gCe: someone else made a similar reference to the Alabama reference given the song ran during the credits of an Ole Miss movie.

pve: why shy about country? Embrace your roots - country makes you happy, itsn't negative, sometimes hokey enough to smile and is all inclusive.
