Barbour, Bean, Brooks & the Brolly

After a cold weekend with about 6" of snow and more expected tonight, trekking around the District has become a much more comfortable and enjoyable experience since rounding out the gear in the Winter Weather collection.

  • Barbour Beaufort: New, unfortunately, but the correct size with warm pile lining and hood.
  • Bean Boots: Venerable classics in 8" - from the fields in the fall to wet mess in the winter.
  • Brooks Driving Cap: Do as your momma told you and cover your head as this Harris Tweed keeps the heat in and your noggin warm.
  • Bean Hunting Tote: Used across the F/W months for making groceries, gear and guilty pleasures.
  • Umbrella: Always be prepared with this plaid brolly.
  • Fur Lined Gloves: Conspicuously absent from this photo, but damn fine and luxurious.
Here's to a snow day this week. And stay warm.

  1. With time the Beaufort will have that nice fade, and the cuffs will eventually fray... and Barbour will re-proof it and cuff it with leather. That's when it is at its best. Great post D.

  3. BJP: I can't wait till a warm August day comes around to re-wax this Barbour. The sheen and smell is incredible.

AEV: PSA - more to come...

  5. Love this kit. Makes me kinda sad they are only anticipating 6 more weeks of winter...

  6. Are you totally sold on the liner? I've heard mixed things. Would like to know your thoughts before I get one.

  7. I am sold. It's been pretty cold in DC and it's made a world of difference between this being a 2 season (spring and fall) and a winter coat that keeps you warm.

  8. Top flight gear....I would pass on the bumbershoot and tote bag...but the coat, hat and boots are classics...and things one would find in my closet....except the hat in my closet is some unkown brand I found at bargain joint...but it has wool and gortex and does the job exceptionally well. By the way...as barbour will re-do waxing etc...so Bean will fix leather uppers on the boots when needed. Go Saints!!

  9. You know something is truly classic when both the mens and womens versions are equally as successful. Ie the bean boots, tote and bedale.

  10. ADG: I think most of the kit went to the UK with me a few years ago.

TWA: I'm good with 6 more weeks. Much more and I'll get some cabin fever.

MLS: Your Saints enthusiasm is noted and much appreciated. WHO DAT!

    PCW: Well said.

  12. Nice. I have most of that stuff myself, even the Bean hunting tote! Looks like a Brigg umbrella, too - am I right? Like the plaid. Never got the hood for my old-model Beaufort, though. Got the snap-in pile lining before they stopped making them, fortunately.

  14. SG,

Are you prepared for this weekend's inclement precipitation in DC? Surely you will be needing these items again. I'll be reaching for the 12" Bean Boots and a puffy down vest.

    Cheers,
    BTG
