"After all, it was the 1980s, Ronald Reagan was in the White House, God was making a comeback, and Duck Head khakis with heavily starched Polo shirts were the official uniform of campus life."

My favorite look...hands down.
ReplyDeleteLAS: One of my favorite shots.
ReplyDeleteAnon: Ditto - discussed it here:
AEV: Best of both worlds - albeit from the Goody's line.
CI: Me too. Well, and a pair of Levi's.
Ah, I remember the days. This was the uniform on campus during the early 90s as well, at least for those boys I hung around with who had not succumbed to the grunge movement. :)
ReplyDeleteJMW: This was the uniform of boys in the 2000's - well maybe not duck head, but khaki's - as well, who kept it classic.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. I quite enjoy checking out your blog. You do a fantastic job with it. I hope you've been having a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteJust discovered your blog and as a fellow native Tennessean, glad to find you.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyable blog - I'll certainly be checking back on a regular basis.
This is still a very common outfit on my campus too, especially in the business school for some reason.
ReplyDeletei didn't like the way duckheads fit. belt loops were too wide.
ReplyDeleteOmg, we were starching AND popping our Polo oxford collars back then...XXOO
ReplyDeleteADG: I feel like you have told me this before, and agree. But as being bigger it works great with my thick belt and buckle.
ReplyDeleteAllie: Until reading this quote I didn't realize it was a thing of the 80's. I have always (except for a big of a cash strapped time in college) sent my oxfords to get starched at the cleaners.
